Code of Conduct

All attendees and speakers at UMS are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We are expecting cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

The Quick Version

The organizers want to create a respectful and safe environment for everyone attending the event. This includes ensuring a harassment-free conference experience for all participants, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, or religion (or lack thereof). We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate in any part of the conference, including talks, poster sessions, or discussions among participants in the conference venue. Conference participants violating these rules may expelled from the conference at the discretion of the organizers.

The Less Quick Version

UMS values diversity and inclusion. We support the Statement of Inclusiveness for scientific events. All participants at UMS are to be treated with dignity and respect.

Harassment will not be tolerated. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a conference organizer immediately. The organizers will be introduced at the beginning of the event, and can be identified by an "Organizer" label on their name tags.

Organizers will be happy to help participants experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at the conference and any conference-related social events.
