Important Course Information - Fall 2001

The purpose of the course is to present methods for solving differential equations. These include graphical, analytic, numerical, the use of the programs on the Interactive Diff. Eqns. (IDE) CD-ROM or optionally using Maple or a TI89/92 calculator. The use Maple or a TI calculator is optional so there will be no required assignments using it. However, students are encouraged to try Maple (see old worksheets ) or use either a TI89 or 92 calculator ( TI89 help ). The IDE CD-ROM contains many useful tools for understanding differential equations. Clearly, the stress is on analytic techniques but the use of the CD-ROM is required for graphical and numerical computation. The computer labs for the course are taken from the CD-ROM so it is important that you explore them before the labs are due. A number of homework problems on the assignment sheet can be solved using provided Maple worksheets or a calculator.
