Undergraduate Lunch in MSCS

Fall 2023 - Spring 2024

The department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) is holding a series of drop-in lunch events for undergraduate students and MSCS faculty in room 300 of the Science and Engineering Offices (SEO) building.

The event runs from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on the following dates (every other Tuesday in Fall 2023):

Drop in any time between 12 and 2 on those days. We'll have some pizza and drinks available. You're also welcome to bring your own lunch, or to just stop by to say hello.

This event is open to all UIC undergraduate students. You don't need to a math major or taking any courses offered by MSCS.

Why attend?

You'll have a chance to see the department, meet other students, talk to MSCS faculty, play some mathematical card games, and generally find out what people in MSCS do other than teach calculus. Questions about our major programs, courses, undergraduate research offerings, and careers these activities might prepare you for are certainly welcome.

Who organizes this event?

This event is hosted by the MSCS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. It is intended to provide an opportunity for community-building and dialog between UIC students and MSCS faculty.

Which faculty members from MSCS will be there?

Mara Martinez (Associate Professor and Director of the Office of Mathematics Education) is the event host for Fall 2023, and will be at each lunch event.

Other MSCS faculty have been invited to drop in according to their availability; there will generally be a few faculty members present at any given time, though the group varies from week to week.
