We are using an online material on www.coursecompass.com: MyMathLab. You have the choice to purchase just the access code for the MyMathLab (which allows you to read the e-textbook online, doing homework and quizzes online also), or you can choose the access code packaged with the textbook (then you have a hardcopy of the book to read, but you still have to do homework and quizzes online).

How to enroll in MyMathLab? Goto www.coursecompass.com: Choose student register,

You need 3 things to enroll:

1.      Your access code ( if you didn’t buy it from the bookstore or other webstores, you can purchase online from CourseCompass with a credit card),

2.      You need an email address (UIC’s or any other email you prefer) and create your password (make sure you remember your password, otherwise you’ll have to call Help at CourseCompass.)

3.      Your course ID: (Depending on who is your TA, here is the list of the course IDs. Check your schedule to see which one is yours. Each ID is guan followed by five digits)

Detailed information on how to buy an access code:

 

1.      click the register button at http://www.coursecompass.com, you will see a webpage showing what you need in order to enroll a course, then click Next button,

2.      you will get to a page asking for a course ID. Enter the course ID you TA give you, select Buy Now option, then you will see the product "MyMathLab powered by CourseCompass for Precalculus 8th Edition by Michael Sullivan, III", click on the Buy button to make purchase.

 

Grading

Discusion: TA, MML, HW, Quizzes

100 points: 45% online HW & Chapter Quizzes, 40% In-Class Quizzes,

                 5% random lecture attendance

                 10% TA (quiz section attendance, exam review problems etc.)

Three hour exams

100 points each

The grading scale is:

Makeup Policy

Students are expected to be present for all exams. No make-up In Class Quizzes, instead three lowest quiz scores will be dropped. Make-up exams will only be applied in case of a verifiable emergency or a formal request by the UIC athletic department. Do not schedule travel on an exam date.

 

Additional Things to Remember:

  • Attendance is required.
  • You should show respect for your classmates, your TA and your instructor. No disrespectful behavior will be tolerated under any circumstances.
  • Avoid behavior that will distract others' attention.
  • Come to class on time and if you have to be late or leave early, try at least not to be noisy.
  • Group work is strongly encouraged but proper credit should be given to any cooperation. If two students work together on their homework, then there should be acknowledged on both works.
  • Plagiarism during exams will not be tolerated.
  • Talk to your instructor about any problems that may prevent you from performing up to your expectations.
  • Any concerns about the class pace, material, sections, quizzes and homework should be promptly discussed with your instructor.
