Students in this program register simultaneously in specific sections of both Intermediate Algebra and Preparatory Chemistry. Students attend the same number of hours as other students in these courses (5 hours in algebra, 4 hours in chemistry). The discussion sections are run in a cooperative learning setting. The algebra syllabus is rearranged to run in parallel with the chemistry lectures, which include a significant amount of algebra focused on problem solving. A carefully matched study with a control group of Math 120 and Chem 101 students showed .5 gpa improvement for Project Match students. Sheila McNicholas of MSCS and Don Wink and Sharon Fetzer of Chemistry have developed this program.
