The graphics is embedded in the dvi file. It is also possible to include LITERAL postscript into a \special command. If the \special begins with the character " then everything following the quote (which can be PostScript) is included verbatim into the dvi file. this makes it possible to include figures without auxiliary files. I predict that it will not be long before DVI viewers allow the filenames to be URLs, and go get the Postscript files off the web when needed. - Marc
