Title: Representation Theory of the Symmetric Group
Abstract: A representation of a finite group is a homomorphism
of the group into a group of matrices. In the case when the given group
is the symmetric group, combinatorial objects such as "tableaux" can
be used to describe the representations. This description of the theory
leads to many diverse applications. The talk will give a survey of the
theory and some of the applications.
