SPEAKER: Susan Friedlander
TITLE: Instabilities in Fluid Motion
ABSTRACT: We live in a fluid world surrounded by air and water. Our weather is crucially governed by instabilities in these fluids. In this talk we give an introduction to the equations that describe the motion of a fluid and discuss the mathematical concept of instability. We describe how almost all states of the fundamental equations ( the Euler equations) are unstable.
