Boston University    Boston,   MA

Master of Arts in Mathematical Finance

The M.A. program focuses on the crux of mathematical concepts that led to the development of the Black and Scholes option pricing method and have grown into powerful computational techniques for hedging risk, portfolio optimization, modeling of interest rates, bond-pricing, investment/acquisition valuation and investment timing. Courses in Operations Research, Scientific Computing, Neural Networks, Software Development and Databases are included, as well. These additional courses equip program graduates with broad and universal tools that transcend the realm of option pricing.

For detailed information see the program's own webpage at http://www.bu.edu/mathfn

This program is coordinated by the Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics and includes courses offered by the Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics, the Dept. of Computer Science, and the Dept. of Cognitive and Neural Systems.

The program began in July, 2000, with the Summer Term II session.

Currently, there are 3 full-time and 5 part-time students enrolled in the program. Their academic backgrounds vary.

The degree can be earned in fewer than 11 months in the full-time option. In the part-time option, the degree can be earned within 2 years.
