The Masters of Arts degree program serves a variety of goals and has considerable flexibility in its design. Through proper selection of course work, students can prepare for direct entry into careers in business, industry, government, and education, or for study toward a Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or operations research. Areas of specialization in the M.A. program are pure mathematics, mathematical statistics, and scientific computation.
For detailed information see the program's own webpage at http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/math/
The Masters of Arts in Mathematics degree is offered by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
Financial aid is available to qualified students in the form of teaching assistantships ($9,200- $10,000 for Masters students and $12,000 for PhD students for nine month academic year plus full tuition and general fees) and non-service fellowships. Summer support in the range of $1,370 - $2,900 is also available; new students are encouraged to participate in a six week Summer Fellowship Program which carries a stipend of $1,800. In addition, the department pays all instructional and general fees. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply (over 50% of our funded graduate students are women and/or minorities). Current graduate students find department stipends ample for their year round expenses.
