Title: Viewing Eighth Graders' Opportunity to Learn: Results from U.S.
TIMSS Population 2

This paper will focus on the opportunity to learn of U.S. students in TIMSS
Population 2 (grade 7 and 8 mathematics). The focus will be on both
teacher and school reports' of students' opportunities to learn as part of
their school mathematics programs. Particular attention will be given to
the flow and teachers' perceptions of students' knowledge base and
opportunities for Grade 8 mathematics, Grade 8 prealgebra, and students
taking Algebra I in Grade 8. Data concerning the relative achievement
levels for these students will also be discussed.
