Title: Conclusions and Recommendations from the MER Graduate Student
Conference
Speaker: Michael Ira, University of Nebraska and
Michael Keynes, University of Washington
During August 9 and August 10, 1996, graduate student representatives
from the mathematics departments of MER Forum Department Network convened at
the University of Washington in Seattle to discuss issues relating to
their education and careers. Panel discussions focussed on education,
research, employment, and the use of University of Washington
mathematics department PFF grant. In addition, social events were
planned where the participants could discuss issues not covered or
discussed in the panels.
Surveys indicated that participants were interested in considering
ways of establishing successful programs at other MER network schools.
We will discuss some possible ways to facilitate program
dissemination.
