Text and Author: ``An Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning, numbers, sets and functions ", by Peter Eccles, Cambridge University Press.
Basic topics covered: Formal statements, types of proofs, the induction principle, sets, quantifiers, functions, counting and number systems, the division and Euclidean algorithms.
Credit hours: 3 hours.
Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in MATH 181 and approval of the Department..
Grading: Written Homework (8) 20%; Hour Tests (2) 40%; Final Examination 40%.
Written Homework: Written homework assignments are due at the beginning of class on indicated dates. Solutions to written homework problems will be posted on the course homepage.
It is suggested that you do as many of the problems in the text as you can. These are NOT to be turned in.
