Text and Author: ``Linear Algebra, Spring 2008, Math 425", notes by David Radford. Free, distributed in class.
Basic topics covered: Canonical forms of a linear
transformation, inner product spaces, spectral theorem, principal
axis theorem, quadratic forms, special topics (here applications of eigenvalues). The course covers roughly
chapters 4--8 of the notes.
Credit hours: 3 undergraduate hours, 4 graduate
hours.
Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in MATH 320.
Grading: Written Homework (7) 20%; Hour Tests (2) 40%; Final Examination 40%.
Written Homework: Written homework assignments are due at the beginning of class on indicated dates. Solutions to written homework problems will be posted on the course homepage.
It is suggested that you do as many of the practice problems in the text as you can. These are NOT to be turned in.
