Text and Author: Abstract Algebra, by David S. Dummit and Richard M. Foote.
Basic topics covered: Algebras, tensor products, introduction to catagories and functors, projective and injective modules, tensor and exterior algebras, finitely generated modules over a PID, field extensions, Galois theory, the Wedderburn Theorems, intoduction to character theory.
Credit hours: 4 graduate

Homework: Written assignments are due at the beginning of class on indicated dates. No late homework accepted. Solutions to written homework problems will be posted on the course homepage.
It is suggested that you do as many of the practice problems in the text as you can. These are NOT to be turned in.
