I am a Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science
at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

I am also an Affiliate Professor at the University of Haifa, and a member of the International Advisory Board for Academic Freedom of Bar-Ilan University.

My research areas are 3-dimensional topology, hyperbolic geometry, and geometric and combinatorial group theory. My term as Managing Editor of the Transactions and Memoirs of the American Mathematical Society ended on January 31, 2000. My successor is William Beckner.
