Text: Intro Stats by De Veaux, Velleman and Bock, 3/e. We are using an online material on www.coursecompass.com: MyMathLab or MyStatLab (It¡¯s only a code, either one works). You must purchase the access code for the MyMathLab (which allows you to read the e-textbook online, doing homework and maybe quizzes online also). If you prefer to have a hard copy in addition to the online access, you may choose the access code packaged with the loose-leaf textbook (then you have a hardcopy of the book to read, but you still have to do homework and quizzes online).

How to enroll in MyStatLab? Goto www.coursecompass.com: Choose student register,

You need 4 things to enroll:

1.      Your access code ( if you didn¡¯t buy it from the bookstore or other webstores, you can purchase online from CourseCompass, just have your credit card ready),

2.      Our school¡¯s zip code: 60607.

3.      You need an email address (UIC¡¯s or any other email you prefer) and create your password (make sure you remember your password, otherwise you¡¯ll have to call Help at CourseCompass for help.)

4.      Your course ID: (Depending on your TA and lab time, here is the list of the course IDs. Check your schedule to see which one is yours. Each ID is lower case LIU followed by five digits):

For Lab CB1 (29172) and CB2 (29173): T 2:00-3:50pm and R 2:00-3:50 pm, your TA is Xin Wang, your Course ID is liu98037;

For Lab CB3 (32706) and CB4 (32707): T 12:00-1:50pm and R 12:00-1:50 pm, your TA is Zhifan Zhang, your Course ID is liu86875.

After you register, you can login to CourseCompass each time to access the course material, do homework and maybe take quizzes (quizzes may have both online and hand-written forms).

QUIZZES /HOMEWORK: Quizzes will be given every week on MyMathLab in your lab starting 2nd week of the semester, covering the previous week's material.  The lowest 3 quiz scores will be dropped from your average. There will be no make-up quizzes, so attend the labs. If for any reason you miss a quiz, you use one of the three lowest drop chances. Homework is also done on the MyMathLab, but you can do it anywhere you have access to a computer (your own laptop, computer labs, library, etc.) before the due date. The lowest 3 homework scores will also be dropped. There is no limit on the number of try on homework. Only the best score will be saved.

TESTS: The two midterms and the final are given during lecture time in your lecture room.

All students are responsible for the full work of the course. This includes knowing the material, taking tests, doing the homework, knowing the dates when tests are held and any announcement that may be made in class. If you have a valid excuse for missing a midterm let me know in advance. In case you are ill on the day of a midterm, contact me as soon as you can. On return you must give a written explanation of your absence. There will be no make up tests. If your excuse is valid your missing exam score will be replaced by your final exam score (scaled of course. e.g. you get 180 out of 200 in the final, your missing exam score will be replaced by 90%). Otherwise it counts zero.  There will be no make-up for the final exam.  Do not hesitate to ask for help if you need it. Do not wait until it is too late.
