Math 220 Final Exam Information

Spring 1999

Time-Space Coordinates
- When and Where: 6-8pm on Thursday, May 6, 250 SES (NEW)
- If you have a conflict please see your instructors ASAP. A conflict is two final exams at the same time!
  During the Spring 1998 term, the course listed first in the Timetable has precedence.

- Mr. Souza: 2-4pm, Thursday, May 6, 518 SEO (if available?)
- Mr. Cheung: Thursday, May 6, 12-2pm, 402 SE0
- Prof. Hanson: 1-3pm, Thursday, May 6, 718 SEO
- Mr. Kern: 10am-12pm, Wednesday, May 5, 512 SEO

Important Notes:
1. Please bring your UIC ID and a calculator
2. You are allowed to prepare and bring a Formula Sheet - two sides of an 8.5x11 sheet of paper - which you must turn in with your exam to have your exam graded. The sheet may have the following information:
  - Required: Name, Lecture Hour, and Discussion day and time
  - formulas and theorems (NEW, 4/27/99)
  - Examples and problems are NOT allowed
3. A complete table of Laplace transforms (back cover of text) will be distributed.
4. A table of integrals (front cover of text) will also be distributed.
5. The final exam is comprehensive - covers material from the entire course. There will be 8 questions, several with multiple parts. The material since the second exam will be weighted more than the earlier material.

Tentative Outline of Material
1. All material from Exams 1 and 2 (See ExamInfo)
  unless specifically omitted on the list below. (NEW)
2. PDE - heat equation only
  - Formulate initial- boundary value problem for heat conduction
  - Computing the steady-state temperature distribution
  - Method of separation of variables
  - BVP and eigenvalue problems
  - Fourier Series - also Sine and Cosine Series
3. Material Not Covered on Final Exam
  - Numerical methods - Euler and RK4
  - Mechanical Vibration Applications
  - In section 10.3 - omit subsection on Orthogonal Expansions and subsection on Convergence of Fourier Series except you must know Theorem 2 on page 597. All other material in 10.3 is covered.
  - Maple syntax
