Welcome to the homepage of Mathematical Computer Science at UIC. We are an undergraduate and a graduate program within the Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) Department — an AMS Group I Mathematics department located in the heart of Chicago. MCS faculty have research interests spanning theoretical computer science, discrete math, combinatorics, numerical analysis, machine learning, and optimization.

At the graduate level, Mathematical Computer Science is a track in the Mathematics Ph.D. degree program. This path prepares doctoral students for research and teaching careers in mathematics and computer science. We also offer an M.S. in Mathematics with a Concentration in Mathematical Computer Science.

At the undergraduate level, the MSCS department offers a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science. It is designed for students who seek careers in computer science and/or computer related fields requiring a strong mathematical background. The program fosters the development of logical and analytical thinking and is designed to provide a basic foundation for students looking to join the forefront of computing.
