Textbook:

"Complex Variables and Applications", by Churchill and Brown, 9th edition.

Topics:

This course will be a rigorous introduction to complex analysis, a fundamental area of mathematics that also has numerous applications in science and engineering. We will be using the textbook by Churchill and Brown, and will be covering the subjects in that text in order. I expect that we will be able to get through approximately the first seven or eight chapters during the semester.

Prerequisites:

Although the course does not require any math beyond Calc III (Math 210), you should be comfortable with rigorous proofs of the theorems in calculus, as we will be doing proofs at a similar or higher level in this class.

Coursework:

There will be weekly homeworks due on Fridays, the first one being due on September 8. There will also be an in-class midterm on October 20, and a final exam at the end of the semester.

Grading:

Midterm Exam: 20%
